Lime Kilns of Wisconsin

September 15 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Lime Kilns of Wisconsin

Presentation by Daniel Seurer, Lake Mills

Daniel Seurer gives a tour of the remains at Brillion Nature Center.

The first time Daniel Seurer saw his first lime kiln, he was a kid. In 1962, his dad drove Daniel and his brother from their home in Fond du Lac to High Cliff State Park in Sherwood. “I recall walking around the quarry and through the lime kiln themselves. Maybe it wasn’t the safest thing to do, but we did it and we thought it was a blast.”

Since Daniel has visited, researched, and photographed more than 20 lime kiln locations in Wisconsin and over a dozen in other states. Join us as Daniel shares photos and knowledge of the history of  lime production in Wisconsin.

Daniel is a retired software sales engineer with a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in archeology and is a member of the Wisconsin Archeological Society. Dan co-authored and self-published two volumes of softcover books about the history of lime production in Wisconsin, titled Kilns and Crushers.
